New Project Announcement - Stereoscopic Photos
Monday, February 14, 2011 at 1:16AM Today marks the official launch of Stereoscopic Photos, a new website and project created by me and brother Chris. We both caught the stereoscopic photo bug while at my Dad's this New Year weekend. We have lots of things planned and are just getting things up and started now. Visit the site, take a look around, and leave us some feedback on what you think.
A Holmes-type stereoscopic viewer with photo card.
While 3D seems to be all the rage lately with 3D movies and TVs, sometimes we forget that the "technology" has been around for awhile. Stereoscopic photography was actually first used in 1838, and became extremely popular at the end of the 19th century. Some of the pictures created during that time are absolutely incredible when looked through a stereoscopic viewer - the images really jump out and come to life. Unfortunately camera technology, photo printing, and the age of the photos has rendered a lot of them less than stellar. That's what is so exciting about using it now - with digital cameras and inkjet printers, you can create your own stereoscopic photos that are sharp and have extreme amounts of detail and they too jump off the paper! Unlike red/blue 3D glasses the colors stay true to the photo.
Our goal with this project is to promote the creation and viewing of stereoscopic photography and celebrate a unique piece of photography history that seems to have been forgotten.
