New 27" iMac Rocks
Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 1:27PM A week ago I took delivery of a new 27" core i7 iMac. I have been nothing but pleased with it so far. It took a few days to install of my software, transfer files over from the two drives that were in my G5 (used this device from OWC to do so - I call it my drive toaster). I also purchased the dual link DVI adapter so it would provide video to my 30" Cinema Display. Having that much screen real estate, while initially seemed like a bit of overkill, is fantastic. Not sure I could go back to anything smaller. It's such a time saver being able to spread windows out without having to hide or bury them under other windows.
I had hesitations about the new keyboard at first (I chose the wired version because thats the only way to get the numeric keypad). After using it for a day however, I found I really liked it. It is much quieter, feels good, and is much easier to keep clean.
The biggest issue I have had with the setup so far is the Magic Mouse. Still trying to get used to it. I love the scrolling of it, I just miss my extra button for activating Expose. It's also a lot thinner than my previous mouse, and seems to get lost in my hand at times.
I haven't done any serious editing or anything that would tax the processor yet. Aperture 3 absolutely flies on it though, and working in full screen mode with the HUD controls for image adjustments over on the second monitor makes editing and tinkering with photos fun. So slowdowns waiting for things to catch up like on the G5.
So far it is great, and I don't miss having a tower one bit.
